Hey. It looks like the Atroma decided to give me a change of scenery. [He sounds vaguely huffy, but not completely put out.] Sorry to leave you guys without a pilot, though.

[...really? She often forgets to check the roster, but that's disappointing.]

Where are you now?

The Blameless. Not the worst ship, I guess.

[He has a couple people here he likes....which he imagines was the point. So his voice is still huffy, but also shading towards wryly resigned.]

[hollystrike]

[She hears the shading. So she asks.]

Will you be coming back?

[She only ever really talks to Felix on the Vanquish. Everyone else already left.]

I'm going to try.

[He will, really. Maybe it's literally just because of Katie, but he doesn't like the idea of the ship being without its own navigational capability. Having it on autopilot isn't great.]

But I get the feeling this transfer has a purpose, or they wouldn't have done it. I don't know if they'll let me come back. At least not officially.

[And if they don't, there's very little point to him taking up residence again. He wouldn't be useful anyway.]

You can come back unofficially, then. At least to visit.

[There is that, anyway. He's letting her know and didn't just vanish. She can be more comfortable with that.]

I'm sorry that the ship will be less lively without me.

[It's a total joke at his own expense, an attempt to bring some levity to the conversation.]

Terribly. I shall have to march up and down the hall banging saucepans to make up for it.

[Amused. But she'll miss you, dude.]

[Felix laughs a very tiny bit.]

Sounds about right.

[Honestly, he'll miss her too. Which is a little strange, given what he knows about her and where his prejudices usually lie. But Katie has been kind to him from the beginning. (Or, anyway, the beginning of knowing her as an adult. He'd almost entirely left the smaller version of her to her own devices.) It makes burying his suspicions and bad instincts much easier.]
