But I get the feeling this transfer has a purpose, or they wouldn't have done it. I don't know if they'll let me come back. At least not officially.

[And if they don't, there's very little point to him taking up residence again. He wouldn't be useful anyway.]

[Honestly, he'll miss her too. Which is a little strange, given what he knows about her and where his prejudices usually lie. But Katie has been kind to him from the beginning. (Or, anyway, the beginning of knowing her as an adult. He'd almost entirely left the smaller version of her to her own devices.) It makes burying his suspicions and bad instincts much easier.]

I haven't seen him for a few days now and I can't reach him by phone.

[There's a brief pause while Katie actually does something practical (mark your calendar) and checks the rosters.]

[It's only a little headache... but yes, that's her truth for the day.]

Do you have any methods of tracking? Aside from typical locator spells.

I failed Location Magic 101. I could ask the local wisp population, though, if you like.

It would be a waste of time. Some of the spells I used rely on local magic.

There is nowhere to land on the Marvisa. If I could safely leave my vessel I would just force my way inside, but if I'm sent back to the Fleet for trying then I could harm someone.

Did you know people vanish from time to time? He's never coming back, you know. At least, I'd hope not.

I've been exploring the city, and that's - loud and colorful and interesting. But have you seen the desert sky at night? I've heard it's amazing, but I haven't gone yet.
