Physical affection: Go for it!
Romance: Go for it!
Violence: Go for it!
Injuries : Within reason! If you're not sure, check in first.
Death: I'm not averse, but this kind of thing definitely needs to be talked about first.
Telepathy and mind-reading: I mean go for it but you will get a headache it's very magically chaotic in here
Content warnings and sensitive subjects related to the character: Mind control/memory manipulation and ritual sacrifice. (She has also witnessed child abuse/the outcome of CSA in the past. She is never going to bring this up, so this would be some weird extenuating circumstance and I will warn ahead of time.)
Content warnings and sensitive subjects this character won't be involved in: As said above, would prefer to avoid suicide-related stuff. Otherwise, while I'm more than happy with physical affection and romance and fade-to-blacks, I won't be writing any smut. (No problem with it, just no desire to write it.)

Confidants
Katie is incredibly easy to talk to. This is a magical race-wide effect; think of her as a bottle of fine brandy to loosen people's lips. People won't exactly come forth and spill their rare secrets, but their every day thoughts, things they just want to get off their chest, or even a secret they wish they didn't have to keep and have been bursting to tell someone? She's right there. People are certainly welcome to blink and go "why am I talking so much?" Here in Folkmore, assume this effect has been dampened right down and thus only select people might be affected (i.e. if you would have fun having your character offer up info they normally wouldn't, please feel free to take advantage of this! Otherwise, business as usual.)
Echoes
Katie can see/hear the echoes of people's obsessions, traumas, their most fiercely imaginative constructs. These are rare, except for children, who are still young enough to Believe Everything and may well have an imaginary friend following them around, or an echo of their favourite stuffed toy that they treat as if it's alive.
For adults... these can be quite abstract, but if your character is obsessed with something, Katie might see hints of it. It might manifest as an echo of something like the sound of dripping blood, or the flicker of the face of someone deeply missed, or the bars of a song that never leaves the mind. Etc etc. Usually it's just hints. A person who's deeply terrified of water might just have little trickles of water flooding around their feet sometimes. Sometimes it can be much, much worse: as an example, Sam Winchester, who spent months hallucinating the devil and interacting him with as a real character, would absolutely have a fully fledged Lucifer echo following him around. (It's not all bad. It could be a loved one kind of looking out for you, etc.)
These are flavour text for the most part, but echoes can be dangerous and plotted with, because Katie can see them and interact with them as if they are real. And if she enchants someone, they become real for that person as well.
If you would like to play with this aspect, feel free to respond below and we can work out what your echoes might be. <3
Opt in. :|a ...tw: hojo.
Normally things like labs and doctors and scientists would be majorly petrifying, he's got a young lifetime of experience of the sheer hell it can be, but in the case of Donnie things are astonishingly nice. if Katie runs on the sort of pooka scale that Changeling: The Dreaming ran off of, he might be actually pretty unpleasant to be around. :( I probably should have checked this sooner..

Maybe also an imaginary Professor, watching and disapproving or being absolutely gleeful depending on what's going on. Anything like humanity, childishness, normalcy, frivolousness etc is obviously a weakness and TOTALLY DISAPPROVED OF. Anything that smacks of being the weapon of mass destruction he's raised as, happier illusiory reactions! Probably not on the level of a full fledged invisible Lucifer, but still constantly, relentlessly there. Judging.

Thanks! He's probably just joined Casey in the ranks of Troubled Teenagers to Keep An Eye On, rofl

Confidants - Altair doesn't talk about his magic or being a shadow mage who can hear soul songs very much but he has always wanted to talk to someone about it and he has been desperately missing the connection he had with his fellow mages, so he's the perfect victim for this! I'll take note of this going forward.
Echoes - lol oh boy Altair has a lot of fun possibilities for this one. First of all, his magic was created from humanity's imagination and a desire for there to be something after death. Magic on his world is imagination given a physical form so I suspect his echoes might be a bit like a child's because of this. Maybe Katie can see a physical echo of his magic around him? His magic is also connected to death, specifically the fear of being forgotten, however you want to play with that.
As for the obsession and trauma part, he has a lot. The easiest, non triggery obsession would be Altair's connection to souls and ability to hear soul songs. Maybe she can hear a faint hint of the endless symphony in his mind? As the witness to the souls of the dead he can't forget any soul song he hears. They're always at the back of his mind. Regardless of how different the songs are though, the endless symphony of soul songs sounds magically harmonious instead of a chaotic mess like you would expect.
As for the darker aspects;
Connected to his connection to souls, Altair's soul visit's the sea of souls, where souls go after death, whenever he falls asleep at night. It's a dark ocean with an endless of symphony of soul songs and star like lights that represent each soul. It's not a place for the living so Altair is forced to drown and go into a deathless state before he can interact safely interact with the souls underwater. He's terrified of the water because of this and I really like the idea of trickles of water at his feet, if you wanted to hint at the sea of souls specifically, maybe the water could be a bit darker and have tiny flickers of light inside it?
Altair was drugged by his best friend and sold to nobles who wanted him dead. Instead of killing him right away the noble's son who Altair had picked fights with before decided to torture him first as revenge. He put Altair on a wheel of death and threw knives at and into him. It ended up saving his life since his fellow mages had time to find him but he lost the vision in his right eye. His magic makes his eye look normal though and Altair keeps his weakness a secret. This incident shattered Altair's trust in people and his blind right eye is a constant reminder that he can't let anyone get close like that again. He also sometimes has a phantom pain in his eye whenever his fear of betrayal gets bad.
Altair's world was destroyed and his magic is partly to blame so Altair carries the guilt of an entire world on his shoulders. This could be represented by whispers of his native language maybe? The deaths of his mother and sister weigh on him the most. Altair always wears a single crystal earring his sister gave him. It could be fun for the earring to glow and Katie be able to hint at another soul whenever he thinks of his sister.
Lastly Altair was forced to become a serial killer to protect his friends by Eclipse, the magical doppelganger of his friend Sirius.
He's been through a lot orz. Feel free to pick and choose which aspects will be fun for you rather than try to include everything, unless you want to. I'm open to anything. This sounds like such a fun ability and I'm happy to go with whatever flow works best for you.

Being able to hear a hint of the endless symphony sounds perfect, as are the water trickles around his feet. These might be the constant echoes, and then flashes of other things dependent on his emotional state: for example, if he flashes back (or is close to flashing back) to being tortured by those nobles, Katie might hear the sound of that wheel going around and their laughter/jeers. We can definitely play some of this by ear as their conversations go ahead from here! But this is a delicious smorgasbord and she will be quite alarmed on his behalf. Echoes, when left long enough, will either fade away or will become more and break away to become monsters in their own right, and one of her many roles as a fae is to try and ensure that doesn't happen. So he'll end up being someone she keeps an eye on from here on out o/
Ergo, if you ever want to plot something in the future, we can have fun with a lot of this <3 Thank you!

Nice! I like that! Relevant to our current thread, do you want to take the endless symphony a step further and say that if Altair is currently touching someone's shadow, when soul songs are the strongest in his mind, that soul song can faintly be heard by Katie through the echo's endless symphony? I also like the different flashes in his echo depending on his emotional state. It will spare poor Katie from being bombarded with all of Altair's trauma all the time. Yes! I love this! Altair is usually the overprotective one so someone keeping an eye on him will be fun!
Absolutely! There's so much fun potential with this and I'm all for it! <3 Thank you as well for the opportunity!
